Suénalo rocks Summer Rendezvous block party
Suénalo took to the stage at the northern end of Commodore Plaza last night and hundreds of people enjoyed them as they ate, drank and danced to the music.
Cita's had café tables in the streets and regular tables on the sidewalk and the crowd enjoyed the street/table service as they listened to the band. Every table at Chicago's Steak House was occupied outside for most of the night, too and it was like that all up and down Commodore Plaza. Even Jaguar, down the block on Grand Avenue was packed all night.
Each week, the block party gets better and better. More and more people have come out to enjoy the food, drinks music, art and fun.
The Summer Rendezvous is on for the next few weeks and ends August 1, but this would be a great thing all year long, at least it should stay throughout the whole summer. Dave Collins and his crew at the BID do an incredible job, Richard and Manny are constantly running all over the place making sure everything works out just fine and it does.
It starts at 7 pm every week, when it's still light out. Families are usually there early. The restuarants fill up fast, Daniela Viotti the Angel takes her place (sometimes as the Statue of Liberty, other times as a butterfly), the artists hit the streets, like Theresa Calluori and the party begins. As night falls, more people show up, more of a drinking crowd, who start the night at the restaurants, enjoy the music and drink and dance the rest of the night away.
It's really becoming a tradition in such a short time and I like it because first off, I know so many people there and secondly, each week, people approach me, readers of the Grapevine, and they introduce themselves to me. And I love that. They always have such nice things to say and I really enjoy meeting them. It's what the whole think is about; meeting new people, enjoying old friends and just having a good old fashioned summer block party.
