David Boardman, the new Postmaster General of Miami, paid us a visit this morning at the Merchants Meeting. It was very nice of him to stop by.
He was concerned about relations between the Grove post office and the village. He knows there is "bad blood," his words, and he wants to rectify that.
Mr. Boardman comes from small villages in upstate New York, and then his last stop was Buffalo, before he came here. He knows that the post office needs to be part of the community. He knows that our Grove post office acts as if they are a separate city state and that they never participate in anything regarding Coconut Grove.
He made a point of that by visiting the Windisch-Hunt Gallery right after the Merchants Meeting. He had heard about the Mail Art Exhibit and where else would a postmaster want to be than surrounded by mail art, that literally arrived through the U.S. Mail.
He is holding painted coconuts that are being prepared in the gallery for Pow Wow.
He also said he would look into having the post office parking lot opened during off hours, for paid parking, like it used to be.
