So the RFP went out for the Glass House in Peacock Park and all sorts of rumors are flying. For the record, I spoke with the owner of Peacock Garden Cafe and they aren't interested and neither is Monty's, both gave me different reasons right to my face, so unless they change their minds in the future, they are out.
The site which housed the NET office at one side and the Chamber of Commerce on the other is now almost vacated. The NET office will move to the former dive shop on Mary Street and the Chamber is moving across the street on McFarlane, at a little place next to Peacock Garden Cafe.
The site, being leased as a "Quaint Garden Cafe/Restaurant/Retail Space can be anything in the end. It appears as if only the one side is up for grabs, only 1900 square feet of the 7226 square feet total. I would assume if a restaurant went in, it would want the side with the coral steps and veranda which overlooks the park and hopefully the water one day if the mangroves are moved. The 1900 square feet is the interior and the exterior space for tables, etc., is 600 square feet.
The space is available in November according to the property for lease form. The City of Miami is presenting it. This is RFP # 12-13-037. July 5 at 2 pm is the deadline for offers. Minimum rent is $4985 per month or a percentage of gross revenues of 4%.
Many people would like to see the whole space become a community center as it had been in the past (this plaque is on the building, showing the dedication in 1968 as a community center), but that doesn't appear to be the case. Now that St. Stephen's has taken over a large part of the park, they may put something in regarding that on the other side of the building, so it's quite possible that part of it could benefit the community.
