A lot of people sent me the Herald story about the bikes (Pedal Power . . .) -- about the rental bikes. They said it would be good here. It would. And it is supposedly in the works. I heard from the BID awhile back that they were going to start with about 10 bikes and have Louis, or one of the Grove ambassadors rent them out in the day.
And that other time, I spoke with Ben from Crispin- Porter about their concept called the B-Cycle, the same concept as the Deco Bikes on South Beach, where you rent a bike at one location and can drop it off at another.
The Grove is quite small, so maybe the concept of the B-Cycle or something similar where you pick up the bike in one location and drop it off at another, may work with the whole City of Miami, where Brickell and maybe downtown could be involved. Maybe a deal with Coral Gables would work, too, this way a person could actually make use of the distance thing where they pick up a bicycle here, ride it to the Gables and drop it off.
But I would assume that most people would just rent it to ride around the neighborhood and want to drop it off at the same location where it was picked up. How many people take a bike on a long distance ride and drop it off in another location, how would they get back to their starting point?
