Someone mentioned the idea of regular concerts in Peacock Park. That sounds like a great idea. I travel around the state and many places like St. Pete have this in the center of the city every Friday night.
Each week there is a different genre of music. The park gets very crowded and all of the surrounding businesses benefit and feed off of it, like bars, restaurants, art galleries, coffee shops and so on.
Peacock Park should have a small stage or band shell (I know the band shell is part of the Waterfront Master Plan but we need something now). It could be set up like the movies in the park or even Shakespeare in the Park. I know that the park is not right on top of the merchants, but just getting people to the Grove is the first step. I think many will hang around to eat, drink, etc. before or after or during the concerts.
It should be nothing like the Mother's Day concert, where it was all about the vendors making money, it should be a free people pleasing event, where people are free to bring food and drinks and picnic baskets to the events.
Maybe the Improv could even send over a couple of comedians to tell a few jokes once in awhile.
Speaking of movies in the park, Disney contacted me a short time ago about showing a couple of movies in the park, I think the Chamber is handling that now, so look for a couple of Disney movies possibly this summer.
