The skater park is a home away from home for many
While I was at the new bike rack party a few weeks ago, I stopped to check out the kids at the skate park, in Peacock Park. I noticed that many other adults wandered over, too. It sort of just draws you if you are in the area.
On Saturdays there is a drop off camp at the skate park. Many kids would have nowhere else to go and would most likely be home alone, but at the skate park, it's like one happy family.
The older kids help with the younger kids. You can't help but stop and watch when you are in the area.
The kids have a lot of respect for each other, and adults. I have stopped many on the street to ask about what they do and they always have a very respectful manner about them. NY Pizza supplies pizza from across the street and parents stop and shop in the Grove.
Kids have their birthday parties there, and they just feel at home there. I saw one birthday invitation and it said, "Don't worry about your skills, the coaches will have everyone skating." Loved that, it makes everyone feel welcome and included.
The One Cool World Base Camp will be part of the Grove's Bike Day on April 26 at the Skate Park. One Cool World will be hosting demonstrations, offering free lessons and safety classes, a skate contest and fundraiser all day for Family Resource Center of South Florida.
St. Stephen's, next door, has an after school program, as well.
