Grove Elementary summer school program needs help

Coconut Grove Elementary School has created a unique "Summer Learning Camp," created to help their students get ahead. The camp's schedule consists of subjects like math, reading and science class in the morning and in the afternoon, students will enjoy art and phys ed.

The summer programs have increased test scores by an 86% average. Four certified teachers are needed at a cost of $25 per hour for 55 days, this totals $11,000 for the entire summer.

The poor economy and current budget crises is affecting the program in that they may have to end it if money is not raised. Comm. Marc Sarnoff (shown here with a student) is asking all to help if they can. New school principal Eva Revelo says that $5,000 is needed for the baseball field, which needs a lot of work. For a grand total of $16,000, a major impact can be made at Coconut Grove Elementary.

Your can bring your tax-deductible donation to Comm. Sarnoff's District 2 office at City Hall (3500 Pan American Drive). Please make checks payable to Miami-Dade County Public Schools and in the memo section, please write "For Coconut Grove Elem. Principal's Special Purpose Account."
