MCA Academy and the Bookstore in the Grove are hosting a reception and awards ceremony for the winners of the La Plume Middle School writing contest on Friday, November 18 from 7-9 pm at the MCA Academy (2911 Grand Avenue).
Refreshments will be served and copies of the winning essays will be presented. A commemorative book will be signed by the contestant/winners.
More than 50 Grove middle school students entered short stories and were judged by a panel of professional writers:
- Megan FISHMANN, publicist at Algonquin Press and writer
- Amy IGNATOW, children's author, illustrator and cartoonist ("The Popularity Papers" series)
- Laurie JENNINGS, 3 time Emmy award-winning reporter and main anchor on Local 10 News
-Aubrey POOLE, Sourcebooks editor
- David SMILEY, a Miami Herald reporter.
And the winners of LA PLUME Young Writers' Contest are:

8th GRADE

- Second Place: Maximilian KONCZA ODDONE for "Reawakening"

The reception is free and open to the public.
