A Portrait of Jazz at La Bottega on Friday

La Bottega Rhythm and Wine is presenting Tanya Maria in A Portrait of Jazz on Friday, May 28. There are two shows, 8 pm and 10 pm.

Jaui Schneider will accompany Tanya on the piano, performing classics by Rogers and Hart, Gershwin, Jerome Kern, Cole Porter, Johnny Mercer and more.

Cost is $30 per person, which includes wine. Admission is free for La Cava club members. Seating is limited, please reserve now by calling 305-444-3493, specify 8 or 10 pm show.

There's a dinner and show special that night: 15% off dinner at Calamari before or after the show.

La Bottega is part of the Grove Garden Trilogy along with Calamari and The Taurus at 3540 Main Highway.

But can you throw and break the dishes?

Ouzo Blue Greek Taverna will be opening the first weekend in June. They are located on the second floor of CocoWalk.

The restaurant features authentic Greek cuisine and nightly entertainment. From their press release: "Ouzo Blue Greek Taverna brings together the warm tradition of Greek hospitality with delicious Greek Cuisine, updated with a contemporary twist. You will find the marrying of flavor and aroma, the crisp tang of traditional seasonings and the freshest ingredients drawn from the land and sea. Ouzo Blue Greek Taverna will feature belly dancing shows making it the perfect place for any celebration."

While their Palm Beach location has closed, we are assured that this new restaurant at the CocoWalk location is a go.

Sailing Club meeting is for members only

It appears that the town is getting all excited over the proposed change in memberships at the Sailing Club, but nothing is being done yet and the meeting tonight is for members only, not for the public.

There will be an open house for the public to attend in the coming weeks, but again, tonight's meeting is just for Sailing Club members and there will not be a vote on the membership changes tonight, just a discussion among members, not the general public.

NOTE: Members include Social Members, it is important that all Social Members attend tonight, your membership is the one at risk.

Celebrating Buddha's birthday

Zen Village (3570 Main Highway), the institute for wellness, culture and spirituality, is celebrating Buddha's birthday and the full moon, too, on Saturday, May 29 at 7:00 pm.

They'll celebrate with a traditional Baby Buddha bathing ceremony and prayer. The ceremonial bathing of the statue of the Baby Buddha is to "remind you to keep a clean mind, free from all obstacles and to awaken and cultivate your true nature."

It's a night of fun community spirit, music, singing and Karaoke with a delicious vegetarian barbecue. Suggested donation is $15.00. Please RSVP to info@zenvillage.org

Fourth of July poster art unveiled last night

Michelle Alvarez and Sylvia Quinn from the Chamber of Commerce's poster committee, show off the winning design for this year's Fourth of July celebration at last night's Chamber networker at the Arts and Minds School. With them is the winning artist, A&M high school junior Andrea Cordero. Andrea's art is not only on the poster but also on t-shirts.

This photo doesn't do the poster justice. It's bright, colorful and truly says the Grove. It's a colorful peacock, whose feathers turn into the US flag. A large coconut palm is also part of the image.

Liliana Dones with artist Erika King. Erika is designing an amazing peacock as part of the Coconut Grove Peacock Tour, it's a collage of famous (and infamous) Grove faces. It will be on display at this Saturday's Peacock Launch Party. That's Robert Parente and CL Conroy, both winners in last night's raffle, we also won a couple of prizes. Lucky night for us all.


The A&M Musical Theater Ensemble did an incredible job with their Broadway performances. The A&M students are very talented when it comes to dancing, singing and art, and their jazz band really puts on a show.


Here are a couple of the students performing. At right, Willie Vega, chair of the Fourth of July Committee is wearing one of the t-shirts with Andrea's art. The t-shirts are $20 and available at the Chamber office and at Palm Produce's two stores at Mayfair and CocoWalk. They will be available through the Fourth of July and sold on the Fourth of July at Peacock Park during the day's festivities. (It is going to be a huge Fourth of July this year, more info to come).

Fresh produce and honey at today's Green Market

The Mayfair Green Market is staring it's summer season today, Wednesday, with four new vendors.

There's an incredible produce guy plus Bonzai, Lucky Bamboo, Empanadas, Gourmet Peruvian, smoothies, jewelry, orchids and more.

Pancho's Empanadas are 3 for $5.00, there is beef, chicken, spinach, tomato and cheese. Brochette is $3.00 or 2 for $5.00.

Beeland Orange Blossom Honey is $6.00 for one pound.

The market is at the Mayfair Promenade, open from 11 am to 6 pm. Stop by for lunch!

Happy Hour to support Holtz Children's Hospital

The Sandbar (3064 Grand Avenue) is having an extended Happy Hour tonight (5 to 9 pm), May 25 to benefit People In Crisis United and the children and families being treated at Holtz Children's Hospital. Stop by after work tonight and support the cause.

Money raised will be used to provide support groups, music, art, and pet therapy, parent dinners, movie days and "make a wish" type of activites.

Wristbands are $10 which gets you one raffle ticket and extended happy hour drink pricing which is half off except for bottled beer and select appetizers. The raffle prizes include a haircut, restaurant certificates and facial gift cards.
