WIFF throwing a Film Pool Pajama Party

WIFF is throwing the Second Annual Film Pool Pajama Party tomorrow, March 27 at 6 pm, atop the Mayfair Hotel at the pool and cabanas. Cost is $45.00.

The evening begins with latest designs in evening and swim wear with a fashion show. Then sit back and enjoy a drink and munch on hors d'ouvres all while relaxing in a lounge chaise or cabanas and watch some of the most entertaining short films of this year's festival.

Meet and greet the directors, actors, designers, stylists, and other industry leaders. PJ's encouraged - but optional. Tickets may be purchased on line here.

King Mango's Concert for Haiti

Glenn Terry has put together a concert to raise money for Haiti relief. It's called King Mango's Concert For Haiti.The concert is Friday, April 16 at 7:30 pm. There's a silent auction beforehand, about 7:15 pm.

The Joe Donato Band and the Grove's Same Old Suspects will play. Also, Exit, a Haitian band will be playing.

Many of the Grove's restaurants (Mr. Moe's, Jaguar, Greenstreets, etc.) have been kind enough to donate gift certificates for the silent auction. Comm. Sarnoff offered lunch, "Sandwiches with Sarnoff" in city hall, as an auction item.

Pizza and punch will be available on site.

The venue is Davis Hall at Plymouth Congregational Church (3400 Devon Road).

A $15 donation is requested, $5 for kids 5 to 12 years old and free for those under 5 years old. All proceeds go to Operation Green Leaves, Inc. for earthquake relief.

Saving Gabrielle Anwar (from getting a ticket)

It's nice being in Burn Notice country, you never know who you'll run into; Jeffrey Donovan one day and just yesterday, beautiful Gabrielle Anwar.

Gabrielle was parked in a bus loading zone, so we chivalrously told her it would be best to move the car, which she did. If it was raining, we would have thrown our coat on the floor for her to walk on, luckily it was sunny and 75 degrees and it was only a matter of avoiding a pesky parking ticket. Even beautiful tv stars don't like getting parking citations.

Commissioner Sarnoff calls for action on Playhouse

Commission Chair Marc Sarnoff brought up an issue regarding the Coconut Grove Playhouse at today's City Commission meeting.

The pocket issue is a resolution asking Governor Charlie Crist and the members of the Florida Cabinet serving as the Board of Trustees of the Internal Improvement Trust Fund for the state of Florida to revert the Coconut Grove Playhouse back to the State of Florida as a result of the restrictions in the Quitclaim Deed, urging the State to then convey the playhouse to a newly formed, not for profit corporation called The Grove Playhouse Theater, Inc.

The new board would consist of Mr. Sarnoff, Mayor Tomas Regaldo, Kirk Landon, Ellen Moceri, Carlos Mogoya, Scott Silver and Carlos Gimenez.

The resolution will be sent as soon as the mayor signs it. They are asking for it to take effect immediately.

Sarnoff called the Playhouse a "big economic driver for the Grove" and said it is now time for the reverter clause to be used. The theater should have been opened within 30 days of closing, but it has been four years now.

Take a moonlight sail this Saturday night

It's time for the Monthly Moonlight Sail at Shake-A-Leg. This Saturday, March 27, set sail with under a full moon on Biscayne Bay.

Check in is at 6:30 pm with boats departing the docks by 7:00 pm, returning no later than 9:00 pm.

Small boat is $25.00 and larger boat is $35.00. You must register because space is limited, you can do that here.

Crime Watch concerned about many car break-ins

All-Grove Crime Watch is reporting a big number of car break-ins, most happening between midnight and 7:00 am, but many in daylight hours. Most occurred with unlocked cars with valuables in plain sight like GPS devices and laptop computers.

The police suggest these procedures be followed:

First call the police non-emergency 305-579-6111 (or 911 if it is a crime in progress or an emergency) to report the suspicious person and/or car in your neighborhood and request that a marked unit come to the area asap.

After calling the police, then call the Neighborhood Resource Officers (NROs) at their cell numbers below and leave messages for them:

PJ's in the Promenade and movies, too!

The Women's International Film Festival (WIFF) is throwing a Pajama Party for kids on Sunday, March 28, but first a bazaar will take over the Shoppes at Mayfair all day.

Movies will be shown including the feature length film, The Magistical, all part of WIFF's movie week, and best of all it's free. Festivities start around noon and the movie screening time is sunset (around 7:30).

The bazaar starts at noon at the Mayfair Promenade. Find good food, great music and fun activities for the whole family, all day. Kids bring pjs and blankets!
